Belgirate ...
“a charming village and one that contains everything which its name promises”
Stendhal, The Charterhouse of Parma
On the shores of romantic Lake Maggiore, in the small, ancient town of Belgirate, next to the famous resort town of Stresa, you will find Bed & Breakfast Torre Lara. The house dates back to the turn of the century, and is built in the Liberty or Art-Nouveau style. B&B Torre Lara is a sensitively renovated (in 2013) family home, offering modern comfort, including wi-fi, in rooms simply but stylishly decorated with the original furniture. The 3 double, bright and comfortable rooms all have en-suite bathroom, heating, air-conditioning and delightful views of the crystal blue waters of Lake Maggiore.
Belgirate lies on the shores of the lake so loved and visited by great literary figures such as Hemingway, Goethe, Gozzano, Manzoni and Stendhal, to name just a few, and at the foot of the Mottarone mountain, with its breathtaking lake views. From B&B Torre Lara you have direct access to a network of ancient shepherds’ paths, connecting the villages and towns along the lake. En-route you will pass by the ‘Old (Romanesque) Church’ of Santa Maria delle Grazie, ancient chapels and symbols of the Cross, and catch glimpses of 15th century frescoes and pre-Christian prayer sites. The beautiful Borromeo islands – Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori, are just a stone’s throw away, accessible by ferry boat, but if you wish to explore just a little further afield, we strongly recommend Lago D’Orta and Lago Mergozzo, the Cascate del Toce, Locarno and the medieval towns of Vogogna, Domodossola and Santa Maria Maggiore. Alternatively take a boat and visit the monastery of Santa Maria del Sasso, enjoy the stunning parks and gardens of the many sumptuous villas around the lake or simply take a gentle stroll along the woodland paths above the town and enjoy the culinary delights of the local Piemontese restaurants and trattorie.
